GAO Report Urges Mutual Funds To Disclose Expenses Investors Pay
Mutual funds do not tell investors how much they have paid, individually, in expenses. They provide a percentage and a hypothetical applicable to all investors in the fund.
The GAO opines that the current disclosure is insufficient. Investors who know their expense likely will shop for more competitive funds, the GAO predicts, instead of relying only upon performance data.
