ecently, Greg Zuckerman of the Wall Street Journal wrote an interesting article, "How Do I Invest More Safely?" He does a nice job outlining alternatives to investing in common stocks. Here are some alternatives that financial advisers are recommending:

CDs and money market funds
Government agent securities issued by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
Mutual funds investing in high yield corporate bonds
Preferred stocks

Mr. Zuckerman also recommends considering broad based index funds, as well as common stocks that pay high dividends.
